Osteopathic treatment to mitigate and learn to live with osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is characterised by the degeneration of the cartilage in the joint, which loses its shock-absorbing function, and therefore the bone below the cartilage experiences greater pressure, even affecting the synovial capsule.
The degeneration of the cartilage may be due to past problems, whether they be fractures, rheumatism, arthritis, joint overload, being overweight, a sedentary lifestyle... Osteoarthritis manifests in the form of pain, principally after being in repose, limitation in mobility, deformations (in very advanced processes) and noise. The incidence of osteoarthritis is greater in the elderly, and is also more common in women than in men. Although curing osteoarthritis does not currently seem to be possible, visiting the osteopath can alleviate the symptoms, improving the quality of life of the person affected.
